Lecture - Science on a Sphere
Orion EM-1 Mission
For the first time in a generation, NASA has built a new human spacecraft that will usher in a new era of space exploration. A series of increasingly challenging missions await, and this new spacecraft will take us farther than we’ve gone before, including Mars.
Exploration Mission 1 or EM-1 (previously known as Space Launch System 1) is the first planned flight of the Space Launch System and the second unmanned test flight of the Orion Multipurpose Crew Vehicle.
The launch is planned for September 30, 2018 from Kennedy Space Center. During EM-1, Orion will travel about 40,000 miles beyond the moon and return to Earth after a three-week mission to test the spacecraft’s systems and heat shield. Orion will travel through the Van Allen Radiation Belt; descend through Earth’s atmosphere and splashdown in the Pacific Ocean.
On Wednesday October 26, 2016 from 5-6 pm, Orion EM-1 Mission personnel will be on location at the Harvey House to talk about this new and exciting mission.
Come join us for an evening Ghost Tour of the Harvey House starting just after the lecture at 7pm.
