BARSTOW CHAMBER PROMOTES NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM.............. Economic Development Committee Seeking Captains
September 05, 2017
Barstow, CA, September 5, 2017– Barstow Area Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee is seeking to expand the Neighborhood Watch program in the Barstow community.
According to the Economic Development Chairperson, Diane Flores, this is one way to have potential home buyers and investors come to Barstow and raise the value of our city. Crime prevention is the best way to help keep our homes and our neighborhoods safe. One of the most effective crime preventions tools is Neighborhood Watch. It is an organized group of citizens devoted to crime and vandalism prevention within a neighborhood. We support the Barstow Police Department and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. We can be their eyes and ears and report suspicious activity.
Ann Marie Hammond, has been selected as the sub-committee chair and has begun facilitating monthly meetings to recruit Barstow area citizens to be Captains of their neighborhoods. At this time, there are 12 civic-minded residents that have stepped-up to be trained as Captains. However, there are many more neighborhoods that need to be covered. The 1-hour meetings are a support group where crime reports are distributed, trainings are conducted and have relevant guest speakers.
The next meeting will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2017, 6:00 p.m. at Tony’s Buffet & Steakhouse Restaurant, located at 1523 E. Main St., Barstow, CA
